Hey Lindsay-have you thought of doing an elimination diet? It would not allow for any gluten as that is often a trigger for multiple auti-immune complications. Also, both potatoes and chicken contain phytochemicals that could cause inflammation in the wrong body (mostly B blood types). Usual foods on an elimination diet? Quiona, rice, millet, all fruits except citrus, best meats=lamb and wild game, all beans and legumes (no soy or peanut), all vegetables (except tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, and corn), only sweeteners=maple syrup and brown rice syrup...and of course lots of (clean) glorious water! I wish you much healing!

"Like" isn't quite right. I hope you get this under control soon. Better still would be a diagnosis that gave you a clear chance at ending it soon! Good luck.

Hi - you don't know me, but I was a PCV in Moldova several years ago, and I have literally felt your pain. I have mild IBS, which I knew going into the Peace Corps; I still nearly had to ET a number of times. I was sick for much of PST, and periodically over the next two years. I am so sorry you went through that pain, and I write in part to validate your decision - the food situation in Moldova is not IBS-friendly. You'd have to live in Chisinau and have a much bigger food budget than PC provides.

Anyway, sa fie sanatoasa - it's really not that big a deal once you figure out your specific triggers - mine are lots of fat, too much alcohol or alcohol with fruit juice (goodbye cocktails), and raw onions and garlic. Also, overeating in general (you will be unsurprised to hear that my first trip to my site resulted in me getting very, very sick, being unable to refuse excessive Moldovan hospitality).

Numai bine,
Sarah M.

Lindsay, sounds like this has been quite an adventure. I'm glad to hear you've found a diagnosis, and sorry to hear that you have to leave. However, it sounds like you've made an amazing difference in Moldova. Take care and get well soon!
